The farmer agreed to deliver the mule the next day.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The next morning the farmer drove up and said,\u00a0\u201cSorry fellers, I have some bad news;\u00a0the mule died last night.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Curtis and Leroy replied, \u201cWell, then just give us our money back.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The farmer said,\u00a0\u201cCan\u2019t do that, I went and spent it already.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>They said, \u201cOK then, just bring us the dead mule.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The farmer asked, \u201cWhat in the world ya\u2019ll gonna do with a dead mule?\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Curtis said, \u201cWe gonna raffle him off.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The farmer said, \u201cYou can\u2019t raffle off a dead mule!\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Leroy said, \u201cWe shore can!\u00a0 Heck, we don\u2019t hafta tell nobody he\u2019s dead!\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A couple of weeks later, the farmer ran into Curtis and Leroy at the Co-Op Grocery store and asked, \u201cWhat\u2019d you fellers ever do with that dead mule?\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>They said, \u201cWe raffled him\u00a0off like we said we wuz gonna do.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Leroy said, \u201cShucks, we sold 500 tickets fer $2 apiece and made a\u00a0profit of $898.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The farmer asked, \u201cMy Lord, didn\u2019t anyone complain?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Curtis said, \u201cWell, the feller who won got upset. So, we gave him his\u00a0$2 back.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Well, word got out and Curtis and Leroy now work for the federal government.
