I heard a cry in the middle of the night<\/p>\n
like it has come across a decade<\/p>\n
accusatory and pain-filled<\/p>\n
leaving me chilled and wet<\/p>\n

who has wanted to make this point?<\/p>\n
who other than my own conscious?<\/p>\n
I have too many memories suppressed<\/p>\n
and some long forgotten<\/p>\n
with my focus on the here and now<\/p>\n

it was a cry of desperation that awoke me<\/p>\n
a cry that signaled out me and my<\/p>\n
hapless sense of responsibility to the past \u2013<\/p>\n
it was like a strawman\u2019s backbone had been snapped.<\/p>\n

violating my peace of mind<\/p>\n
leaving me with piercing headaches<\/p>\n
and a troubled hollowness in my soul<\/p>\n
echoing endless questions about past conduct,<\/p>\n
current responsibilities, future intentions<\/p>\n
