The vivid pictures of me in my younger years have all<\/p>\n
but yellowed and blurred, all details hidden \u2018neath a smoky hue<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve noticed I am no longer the center of my world;<\/p>\n
where once there were clear thoughts and purposeful intent,<\/p>\n
today, I\u2019m no longer sure footed, planted<\/p>\n
but left with an awkwardly lean, unbalanced and uncertain<\/p>\n
I can stand unnoticed in a middle of a crowded room<\/p>\n
trying to catch a phrase or a single word to pick up on<\/p>\n
and then contribute a thought, any notion,<\/p>\n
something intelligent and real and interesting;<\/p>\n
perhaps reflecting my insight and wit and yet<\/p>\n
there\u2019s nothing but pensive glances, grins and nods<\/p>\n
as I grimace through another conversation,<\/p>\n
straining to remain interesting \u2013 and interested<\/p>\n
saying anything to cut through the silence and exhume<\/p>\n
those lost hopes and dreams of my blurry, faded younger self<\/p>\n
