Teachers and school staff failed to respond to save Amaria\u2019s life (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtvr.com\/news\/wtvr-chesterfield-student-death-20120103,0,4150762.story\" target=\"_blank\">see TV report<\/a>). \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Goldenberg, one of Canada\u2019s leading allergy safety experts, wrote in her blog <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.onespotallergy.com\/2012\/01\/allergic-injury-and-death-at-school-what-will-it-take-to-protect-our-children\/\" target=\"_blank\">One Spot Allergy <\/a>some of the troubling questions we all ask as parents of children with severe allergies: \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em>Case after case of catastrophic injury and death involve teachers or school nurses who failed to recognize an allergic or asthmatic emergency. Once they did realize what was happening, they responded slowly and inadequately, by failing to inject the patient with an EpiPen or choosing to call parents instead of 911.\u00a0 How many deaths will it take until every State and Province in North America has mandatory allergy safety provisions for schools?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.onespotallergy.com\/2012\/01\/allergic-injury-and-death-at-school-what-will-it-take-to-protect-our-children\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These tragic stories keep us up at night.<\/p>\n<p>Not wanting to see further headlines like Amaria\u2019s death drive the families of the <a href=\"http:\/\/cai-allergies.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Anaphylaxis Initiative<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As families dealing with the realities of anaphylaxis, we want to ensure Canadians with life-threatening allergies have safer environments to live, work and play. \u00a0There are a growing number of families in Canada who are directly affected \u2013 and, together, we can make a statement for the health and safety of our loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Want to help?
