Her list of ten are a good reminder for us to rethink those \u201ctruths\u201d we hold close. Here\u2019s Beck\u2019s retake on some old lessons: <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>Problems are bad.<\/em> \u2026Real problems are wonderful, each carrying the seeds of its own solution\u2026<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>It&#8217;s important to stay happy.<\/em> \u2026 say, &#8220;It&#8217;s okay to be as sad as I need to be.&#8221; This kind of permission to feel as we feel &#8212; not continuous happiness &#8212; is the foundation of well-being.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>I&#8217;m irreparably damaged by my past. <\/em>Painful events leave scars, true, but it turns out they&#8217;re largely erasable\u2026<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>Working hard leads to success.<\/em> \u2026So play as you did in childhood, with all-out absorption\u2026 Play, not work, is the key to success\u2026. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>Success is the opposite of failure.<\/em> Studies show that people who worry about mistakes shut down, but those who are relaxed about doing badly soon learn to do well. Success is built on failure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>It matters what people think of me.<\/em> \u2026.imagine what you&#8217;d do if it absolutely didn&#8217;t matter what people thought of you. Got it? Good. Never go back.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>We should think rationally about our decisions.<\/em> Often complex problems are best solved by thinking like an animal&#8230; Instead of weighing pros and cons intellectually, notice your physical response to each option. Pay attention to when your body tenses or relaxes. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: Georgia; mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho';\"><em>The pretty girls [people] get all the good stuff.<\/em> Oh, God.
