The West feeds it. Ontario and Quebec milk it. At a time when people are demanding greater accountability and transparency, they see their government institutions becoming more remote and opaque. &#8211; Lynne Slotek<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia; font-size: 11pt;\">In Canada the philosophical differences between the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives are scarcely perceptible. The main motive for joining one of these parties is to acquire power or a lucrative job. So political patronage flourishes. Politics (is) run on \u2018jobs for the boys.\u2019 And Canadian ministers arrange for large amounts of federal money to go to their constituencies. &#8211; Lord Moran<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia; font-size: 11pt;\">We are the government. I don\u2019t see why we can\u2019t try to get credit for what we do (patronage). I hope we do so.
