Freedom of speech no longer exists in Britain. The land that gave the world the Magna Carta, the Levellers, and John Stuart Mill—three of the key foundation stones of the modern conception of liberty—is now arresting and even jailing people simply for speaking their minds.
Believe it or not, here are the three crimes that are detailed in this article:
- A man is being investigated by police for using a hashtag – #disgrace – in a tweet to describe his reaction to two Muslims praying at his favourite football team’s stadium
- A female journalist is being investigated by police and her newspaper after 285,000 people signed an on-line petition against her language in one of her columns
- An advertising regulatory body has launched an investigation into a company for using a sexy, bikini-clad woman to advertise their protein supplements, stating that this model offends plump people.
This is all so bazaar. In our political correct world, and with the endless numbers of militant interest watchdogs, By George has to question whether we have any freedom of speech at all these days?
